Map of the Tennessee River

The Tennessee River is 652 miles from Knoxville as it winds its way south past Chattanooga, slipping through the Tennessee River Gorge, widening to broad lakes and stopped by dams along the way. At Guntersville, Alabama, the river makes an unexpected turn north, crossing the state of Tennessee and finally merging with the Ohio River in Paducah, Kentucky.
